Cycle to Work

Save up to 42% on your next bike

Cycle to Work is a government-backed scheme that lets you spread the cost of a new bike, e-bike and riding kit through your salary. Payments come out before tax, so you pay less for the same bike, and we sort the paperwork at our end.

How it works

Four steps from choosing to riding

01

Pick your bike and kit

Choose from our bikes, e-bikes and accessories. We will help you get the right size and spec, build a quote and reserve your choice.

02

Apply through your employer

Your employer approves the salary sacrifice. Most schemes ask for your employer code and payroll number when you apply online.

03

Get your voucher

Once approved, your employer pays the scheme and you are sent a certificate or voucher for the agreed amount.

04

Collect and ride

We redeem the voucher, build the bike properly and hand it over ready to ride. At the end of the hire period you choose an ownership option.

What you can get

One package, bike and kit together

Most schemes let you put a bike and the accessories you need to ride it to work on the same voucher, so everything arrives together and comes out of your salary in one monthly payment.

Bikes of every kind

Road, gravel, mountain, hybrid, kids and BMX bikes — whatever gets you to work and out at the weekend.

E-bikes

Electric bikes for longer commutes, hillier routes or simply arriving without breaking a sweat.

Riding kit

Helmets, lights, locks, mudguards, clothing and the safety kit you need, all on one voucher.

Built and set up

Professional builds, setup advice and ongoing servicing from a proper bike shop, not a warehouse.

Cyclescheme

The UK's most popular scheme, and the one most employers already have in place. It is no longer limited to £1,000, so e-bikes, cargo bikes and bigger packages are all possible. Pick your bike and kit, apply online with your employer code and payroll number, then hire it over an agreed period — saving up to 47% with the recommended ownership option at the end.

Green Commute Initiative

Green Commute Initiative

A not-for-profit scheme with no upper limit, which makes it the popular route for higher-value e-bikes and cargo bikes. Your employer registers and gives you a Corporate GCI code, you apply through the GCI portal, sign the salary sacrifice and hire agreements, then receive a collection voucher to spend with us.

Questions

Cycle to Work, answered

Who can use Cycle to Work?

Anyone whose employer runs a scheme. You need to be an employee, 18 or over for most schemes, and your pay after the salary sacrifice must stay at or above the National Minimum Wage.

How much can I save?

Up to 42%. You pay nothing upfront, spread the cost over an agreed hire period, and pay less Income Tax and National Insurance because the payments come out of your salary before tax. Some providers quote more — Cyclescheme say up to 47% and Cycle Solutions up to 49%, depending on your tax band and the ownership option you pick at the end.

Is there still a £1,000 limit?

Not any more. £1,000 was the old standard limit; many employers now set a higher one, Cyclescheme is no longer limited to £1,000 and Green Commute Initiative has no upper limit at all. That is what makes e-bikes, cargo bikes and bigger packages possible on the scheme.

What can I buy on the scheme?

A bike or e-bike plus the kit you need to ride it to work — helmets, lights, locks, mudguards, clothing and more. Schemes expect the package to be for commuting, so tell us what you have in mind and we will build it into the quote.

Do I own the bike at the end?

You hire it through salary sacrifice for an agreed period, usually 12 months or longer, then choose an ownership option when the hire agreement ends. Cyclescheme contact you about the options, and with Cycle Solutions there is nothing further for employees to pay.

What if my employer is not signed up?

You can refer your employer to the scheme you would like to use — most providers make it free and quick to register — or pop in and we will point you in the right direction. If your scheme is not listed here, get in touch: chances are we can accept it.
